    Join a Naturalist for a hike on some of Wildwood’s less-traveled trails. Admire the fall foliage and clearer views of the Lake as the leaves fall. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy close-toed shoes. Hike will be around 3 miles. Pre-registration required.

    Make an evergreen wreath out of natural materials. Everything will be supplied to make a wreath with decorations from nature, including cones, berries, nuts and seed pods. Wreath assembly will occur indoors with optional decorating to follow. Bring personal work gloves and/or decorations.

    Children and adults are invited to make holiday ornaments using pinecones, milkweed pods and other natural materials. Everything but the creativity will be supplied to make works of art to decorate for the holidays. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Each session holds 15 people.

    Young Birders: Counting Is for the Birds (with Appalachian Audubon)

    Christmas Bird Counts are the longest-running citizen science survey, helping to track bird populations and promote their conservation. Join members of the Appalachian Audubon Society’s Young Birders Club and Christmas Bird Count volunteers to learn about how and why we count as we do an unofficial Christmas Bird Count along one of the Boardwalks. Afterward, warm up inside the Nature Center at the Bird Viewing Area with a warm beverage. Bird Friendly Coffee will also be for sale. This is a perfect chance for young bird enthusiasts to learn how Christmas Bird Counts work. Binoculars will be available. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. Program limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration required.

    Photography Contest Display

    Visit the Olewine Nature Center to view and vote for your favorite photos! Take a tour of beautiful photographs from all of Dauphin County’s parks. Winners will be announced at the Photo Contest Reception on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded for winning entries. The People’s Choice Award winners will be announced in February after the display ends.
