Dauphin County Elections Office Mails Ballots to Voters; Expands Drop Box Locations, as April 23 Primary Election Nears

HARRISBURG (April 3, 2024) – As the April 23 primary election approaches, Dauphin County’s Election Board announced that 15,107 requested mail-in and absentee ballots were delivered to the U.S. Post Office on Crooked Hill Road today in Susquehanna Township. Those ballots should start arriving at homes as early as Friday.

In addition to the drop boxes located outside the Dauphin County Administration building (at 2 S. Second Street in Harrisburg) and the box located inside the Northern Dauphin Human Services Center (295 State Drive, Elizabethville), the Board of Elections expanded drop box locations to an additional five locations, for a total of seven drop boxes.

Four of the five drop boxes will be located outside Magisterial District Judge offices throughout the county. These boxes will be available 24/7 and will be monitored by video surveillance. A fifth box will be placed outside the Dauphin County Bureau of Registration and Elections office (1251 S. 28th Street,) to allow for 24/7 access. Voters may still return ballots inside the office during business hours as well as request ballots over-the-counter. The drop box locations are:

To give voters more options and greater convenience as they return ballots, the elections office at 1251 South 28th Street will extend hours until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, April 1 through Monday, April 22. On Tuesday, April 23, voters can return voted ballots up until 8 p.m.

Voters needing to process over-the-counter ballots may do so only at the Dauphin County Registration and Elections office at 1251 S 28th St, Harrisburg PA 17111.

According to Pennsylvania election law, voters may only return their own ballot. A voter may not return someone else’s voted ballot, even if it is for a spouse or family member.

Additionally, voters are reminded of the following important deadlines:

  • The last day to register to vote is April 8.
  • The last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot is April 16.
  • The deadline to return voted ballots is 8 p.m. on April 23.
