Human Trafficking
Human trafficking affects people throughout Pennsylvania in urban, suburban, and rural areas, and it affects people in Dauphin County. Human trafficking hides in plain sight. Help is available for the victims of human trafficking. Awareness is critical.
Under Pennsylvania law, the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline Notification Act mandates that certain establishments post at least one sign in a conspicuous manner that is clearly visible to the public and its employees that indicates that victims of human trafficking are protected under United States and Pennsylvania law. The sign must contain the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
The sign must be posted in both English and Spanish. A PDF copy of the sign is available for download on this webpage. The posted signs must be at least 8 ½” by 11” in size. Establishments which must post these signs include all airports, train stations, bus stations, truck stops, rest areas on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and any adult entertainment enterprise featuring nude or partially nude dancing or providing live adult entertainment. Human trafficking includes both sexual servitude and involuntary servitude. The vast majority of those involved in “prostitution” are the victims of human trafficking. Engaging in a sex act or performance with a victim of human trafficking is a felony offense. If you suspect human trafficking is occurring, contact police through 911 or use the human trafficking hotline.
