County Drug and Alcohol Offices Move To Tecport to Pave Way for Mental Health Crisis Walk-in Center
Dauphin County Drug and Alcohol Dept. Moves to TecPort in Swatara Twp.
Relocation Paves the Way for Innovative New Walk-in Behavioral Health Center in Former Cameron Street Location
HARRISBURG (Jan. 31, 2024) Dauphin County’s Drug and Alcohol Department is moving to a new location, offering easier access to the public.
Their offices were formerly at 1100 S. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, by River Rescue, and will now be at TecPort, at 3815 TecPort Drive, by the Harrisburg East Mall area, in Swatara Twp.
The move, which begins today, will allow for the Cameron Street location to start its transformation to the new site of an emergency walk-in behavioral health crisis center and mobile crisis response unit. The new center, announced in December, is a joint project uniting Cumberland, Perry and Dauphin counties.
The center will attempt to address the concerns of many first responders, who are often called upon to treat and transport patients with mental health and drug and alcohol issues to hospitals, only to find long wait times and limited beds in emergency rooms. The new center will be operated by Connections Health Solutions, providing 24-7 care to children and adults without regard to insurance or ability to pay.
Commissioner and Board Chairman George P. Hartwick, III said the new office space at TecPort is more convenient to the public, with quick and easy access to both Rte. 81 and 83, and with adequate parking spaces, and handicapped-accessible parking closer to the entrance.
Hartwick reminded residents that while they are welcome to go to the TecPort building to connect with substance use treatment, intervention, prevention, and recovery support services, services can be accessed in many different locations and ways.
.
“We have instituted a ‘no-wrong-door’ policy in Dauphin County. Whether you express a need for help at a hospital, a doctors’ office, our Drug and Alcohol office, another county agency, or even your home, we will help you get access to care,” Hartwick said.
Renovations on the Cameron Street location are expected to begin soon, with the goal of opening the walk-in center at the end of this year.
For those who need directions to the TecPort building or who need assistance with drug and alcohol needs, please contact the department at 717-635-2254. This number is available 24-7, for needs that include detoxification. ##
