Dauphin County Hosting Open Interviews for Emergency Dispatcher Positions
Dauphin County is hosting open interview sessions the week of Jan. 31 for emergency 9-1-1 telecommunicator positions.
Interested applicants do not need appointments or pre-filled applications.
If interested, report to one of the following sessions:
- Jan. 31 at Dauphin County Department of Public Safety
- Feb. 3 at Northern Dauphin Human Services Center
- Feb. 4 at Londonderry Fire Station
All interview sessions are open from noon to 8 p.m.
“Dauphin County is being creative in our job recruitment processes to account for a shortage of applicants nationwide in nearly all professions and positions,” Dauphin County Commissioner Chair Mike Pries said.
Dauphin County Director of Public Safety Jeffrey Enders said: “This is a way to streamline the application and hiring process to keep our workforce strong.”
Emergency calls are being answered and dispatched – there has been no disruption to service at the 9-1-1 center.
“We want to be proactive in finding and retaining quality employees in all departments,” County Commissioner Chad Saylor said.
Last year, Dauphin County DPS handled 311,271 dispatch events for police, fire, or EMS services.
“This is very busy, high-stakes work,” County Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III said. “But it is also extremely rewarding work. It is an opportunity to help people in their most difficult moments.”
In 2020, Dauphin County DPS handled 290,103 emergency dispatch events – after handling 338,113 in 2019.
